Work with students to put these Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Strategies into action, so they're on board and get other students to join in! Customize them so they work for your school community and students can really consider them their own. Network with other adult leaders to bring their expertise into play and combine these ideas with ideas they are working on.
Healthy Eating Strategies:
- Bring on Breakfast and make it accessible and attractive to everyone. Choose from: Grab-N-Go Breakfast; A Hero's Breakfast; Breakfast in the Classroom; Breakfast Picnic; Taste Test Breakfast
- Make Nutritious Foods Fun by marketing healthy food choices to students. Choose from: Milk Mustache Booth; How Many Can You...?; Point-of-Purchase Promo; If You Ask Them, They Will Eat; Vending Revamp; Taste a Rainbow
- Cafeteria Restyle to promote healthy eating habits through a better eating environment. Choose from: Menu Makeover; Cafeteria Culture; A Little Paint Can Go a Long Way; In the "Hot" Seat; Plenty of Time...to Eat?
- Try It, You'll Like It!, to expose students to healthy food options. Choose from: Taste Test Days; Salad Bar Tryouts; Build Your Own Shake-Up; Recipe Contest; Super Bowl Party
Physical Activity Strategies:
- Make the Most of Mornings and get students and staff moving through walking or other activities before school. Choose from: School-Wide Walk It! Club; Pre-Class Lap Run; Walk/Bike to School Program; You'll Love Yoga
- Physical Activity: Anywhere, Anytime! to create special places in school for activity outside of PE class. Choose from: Learning the Moves; After School Fun Fitness Activities; Create Your Own Fitness Center; Activity Zones
- After-School Pick-Me-Ups for ramping up physical activity during after-school time. Choose from: After-school Drills and Skills; Culture Dance Club; Family Fitness Challenge; Get Into Intramurals
- Take a Break for Health and help students get their 60 minutes of physical activity a day through short bursts of activity. Choose from: In-Class Physical Activity Breaks; Monthly Physical Activity Challenge; Stop and Go Signs; Lunch Break
- NFL Play 60! to engage students with programs and activities from the NFL. Choose from: NFL Flag Football; NFL Player Challenges; NFL Play 60 Challenge; NFL Play 60 Model Teachers; Fitness Fire Drills
